General
How much does a service call cost?
A diagnostic visit is $89. The technician finds the cause and gives you the repair price before any work starts. If you go ahead, the $89 is credited toward the repair. Maintenance plan members don’t pay the diagnostic fee.
What are your hours?
We’re open every day, 8 AM to 5 PM. Call (702) 750-2608 during those hours, or book online any time and we’ll contact you to set the appointment.
How soon can AMA Air come out?
Call (702) 750-2608 and we’ll give you the first open time. AMA Care Plan members are booked first.
Which areas do you serve?
We work across the Las Vegas valley, including Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Summerlin, Spring Valley, Paradise and Enterprise. Not sure you’re in range? Call (702) 750-2608.
Are you licensed?
Yes. AMA Air holds Nevada contractor license #0075842 (C-21, refrigeration and air conditioning) and #0077366 (C-1D, plumbing). You can look both up on the Nevada State Contractors Board website.
Do you work with home warranty companies?
Yes. Much of our work comes from home warranty companies that assign us to their customers. If yours sent us, your contract decides what’s covered and sets your service fee.
What is the AMA Care Plan?
It’s our maintenance plan: a cooling tune-up, a heating tune-up and a plumbing and water heater inspection each year, plus no diagnostic fee, 10% off repairs and priority scheduling. It costs $13.99 a month or $159 a year.
AC repair
Do you repair rooftop package units?
Yes. We repair and replace rooftop package units as well as split systems with an outdoor condenser and an indoor coil.
Do you fix refrigerant leaks?
Yes. The technician measures the system’s pressures, looks for the leak and tells you whether a repair or a coil replacement makes more sense before any work starts.
Should I keep running an AC that has ice on it?
No. Turn cooling off and run the fan only until the ice melts, then call. Running a frozen system can damage the compressor.
AC replacement
Should I repair or replace my AC?
Repair usually makes sense for a newer system with a single failed part.
Price a replacement when the compressor fails on an older system, when it uses R-22, or when it breaks down every summer.
Heating repair
Do you repair heat pumps?
Yes. We repair heat pumps in heating and cooling mode, including defrost problems and backup heat, as well as gas furnaces and gas-electric rooftop units.
Is it safe to keep resetting my furnace?
Not more than once. A furnace that keeps shutting off is protecting itself from a fault, sometimes a safety one. Switch it off and call (702) 750-2608.
AC and heating tune-up
Does the AMA Care Plan cover more than one system?
Yes. The AMA Care Plan price covers one heating and cooling system. Each additional system is $10 a month, or $120 a year.
What happens if a tune-up finds a problem?
You get the repair price and decide; nothing is fixed without your approval. AMA Care Plan members get 10% off the repair.
Water heaters
What kinds of water heaters do you replace?
Standard 40- and 50-gallon gas water heaters. Have an electric or tankless heater? Call (702) 750-2608 and ask.
Do I need a permit to replace a water heater?
In the City of Las Vegas, yes: the City requires a plumbing permit to install or replace a water heater.
Clark County, Henderson and North Las Vegas also issue water heater replacement permits. We pull the permit as part of the job.
Is my water heater still under warranty?
Maybe. Manufacturer warranties run by serial number, not by how old the tank looks, so check the serial on the label with the maker before paying for a new tank.
Leak and plumbing repair
Do you replace shut-off valves?
Yes. We replace shut-off valves and supply lines under sinks and toilets, a common repair once the old valves seize or start dripping.
How do I know if I have a hidden leak?
Turn off all faucets and appliances that use water, then watch your water meter. If it keeps moving, water is leaking somewhere in the home.
Where is my main water shut-off?
Usually near the front hose faucet, in the garage, or at the meter box near the street, though it varies by home. Find it before you need it.
Home warranty
Why is my home warranty repair taking a few days?
Delays usually come from authorization and parts. Larger repairs wait for your warranty company’s approval, and some parts must be ordered. Your warranty company can tell you where the authorization stands.
Can I hire AMA Air directly instead of through my home warranty?
Yes. Call (702) 750-2608 and book a regular repair visit. Your warranty contract’s terms don’t apply to work you hire us for yourself.
What should I have ready for a home warranty visit?
Your warranty work-order number, and a clear path to the equipment. Answer the call or text that sets the appointment, so the claim doesn’t stall.
