Water heater repair and replacement in Las Vegas

AMA Air repairs and replaces water heaters across the Las Vegas valley and pulls the permit on every replacement. Call (702) 750-2608 or book an $89 diagnostic visit online.

Diagnostic visit

$89

A technician comes to your home, tests the system and finds the cause.

If you go ahead with the repair, the $89 is credited toward it.

Safety first. If you smell gas near the water heater, leave the house and call 911 or your gas company from outside.

If the tank is leaking, turn off the cold-water valve on top of the heater, then turn off the gas valve or the breaker.

What is your water heater doing?

  • No hot water

On a gas heater, check whether the pilot or burner is lit. On an electric heater, check the breaker. If those are fine, a thermocouple, gas valve or heating element has usually failed.

  • Not enough hot water

Sediment on the bottom of the tank, a failed electric element or a broken dip tube can all cut the hot water you get.

  • Water around the base

Check whether it’s the relief valve line, a fitting on top, or the tank itself. A leaking tank can’t be repaired; it needs replacing.

  • Rumbling or popping

Usually sediment on the bottom of the tank, boiling as the burner heats it. Hard water makes it worse.

  • Rusty hot water

Rust in the hot water only can mean the tank is corroding inside. If the cold water is rusty too, the cause is elsewhere.

What a replacement includes

  1. The install

The old tank comes out and the new one goes in, connected to the water, gas and venting. Any code work the install needs is quoted with it.

Why Las Vegas water heaters wear out

Las Vegas water is very hard. The Las Vegas Valley Water District’s 2026 summary puts average hardness at 280 parts per million, about 16 grains per gallon. Heating that water leaves mineral sediment in the bottom of the tank.

Sediment and minerals wear tanks out faster. Tank water heaters generally last 10 to 20 years, depending on the unit and how hard the water is.

Should I repair or replace my water heater?

Repair when the tank is sound and a part has failed: a thermocouple or gas valve on a gas heater, a heating element or thermostat on an electric one, or a relief valve.

Replace when the tank itself leaks, since a leaking tank can’t be repaired, or when an older tank needs an expensive part. ENERGY STAR suggests considering replacement once a water heater passes 10 years.

From our customers

I was very happy with the installation of my new water heater, … Everything is working great. The home warranty was the thing that slowed the service. Not this company.

Questions

What kinds of water heaters do you replace?

Standard 40- and 50-gallon gas water heaters. Have an electric or tankless heater? Call (702) 750-2608 and ask.

Do I need a permit to replace a water heater?

In the City of Las Vegas, yes: the City requires a plumbing permit to install or replace a water heater.

Clark County, Henderson and North Las Vegas also issue water heater replacement permits. We pull the permit as part of the job.

Is my water heater still under warranty?

Maybe. Manufacturer warranties run by serial number, not by how old the tank looks, so check the serial on the label with the maker before paying for a new tank.
